This role combines academic learning with practical experience, providing you with the skills and qualifications to become a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. Through a mix of distance learning, block release training, and hands-on practice, you’ll work under the guidance of an experienced supervisor to develop your expertise.

Interpret prescriptions and provide tailored advice on lens options and frame styling.

Take precise measurements for frames, lenses, and facial fitting.

Complete distance learning coursework and assignments.

Attend block release periods for intensive study and practical training.

Build and maintain a Pre-Qualification Portfolio (PQP) to document case records and clinical skills.

Deliver exceptional customer service in a professional environment.

GCSEs (Grade 4-9 / A-C) in English, Mathematics, and Science.

Strong enthusiasm for ophthalmic dispensing and a commitment to learning.

Ability to dedicate 10-15 hours per week to distance learning coursework.

Availability for two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent.

Years 1 & 2: Training at the Reading branch.
